NIPPER NEWS

Firstly well done for the Nippers and parents who came down for the Nutragrain Ironman training clinic last
Friday morning. A great success from everyone's perspective and I believe we will be getting them again
 for then next few years.

City of Perth Club aims to develop Nippers that are competent in all surf sports and will remain committed
to the Club and participate fully in the patrols and the major objective of SLSA  - saving lives.  In the past we
have had Championship Days to recognise the best competitors on the beach and in the water and also
Points Days to acknowledge those children who consistently performed well over the season.

This year, following discussions with the Age Managers, it was acknowledged that too often this was the
same group of children and we wished to recognise a broader group of children who contribute to the club
in other ways.  On this basis it was decided to continue with Club Championships awarding a Female and
Male Club Champion, Beach Arena Champion (no runner up Beach Arena Champion) and Water Arena
Champion (no runner up Water Arena Champion) but not hold the other 2 points days.  Awards will be made
to Best Club/Team member, Best New Nipper in age group and 2 Age Manager awards.  The criteria for these
awards will be determined by the age managers to ensure consistency.  We believe this will recognise and
encourage a broader group within each age group and reflects the aims of our Nipper program.

Other items to note are this Sunday, 5 February is Jacko Day - a "friendly" competition between Scarboro
and City for the magnificent Jacko Day Pepetual Foamy Trophy. It will be at out beach and for the U11 - U14
we will have 4 events swim - sprints - board race - and flags. We will join the groups and rotate them through
the events, allowing say 25 minutes per arena.

The following Sunday 12 February is the Junior State Qualifier carnival at Sorrento. The usual requirement
for all entries in and registered with SLSWA by Wednesday, 8th. That means you must pay and advice
Age Managers no later that COB Tuesday 7 Feb. Entry fee is $10.

Just as a heads up - Junior State Titles (Fremantle 11 March) have an entry fee of $35 and the close date is
Thursday 1 March (late entries till Tuesday 6th)
Cheers
Chris
